Kesha’s “Woman” Music Video | POPSUGAR Entertainment

Kesha gets straight to the point in the chorus of her new song: “I’m a motherf*cking woman, baby.” The new single, featuring The Dap-Kings and aptly titled “Woman,” is a kickass, empowering follow-up to “Praying,” her emotionally raw return to the music industry after four long years spent locked in legal battles with producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. While “Praying” is a brutally honest ballad about everything she’s gone through, “Woman” is all bouncing, biting pop, and a call back to her “TiK ToK” days. “I buy my own things / I pay my own bills / These diamond rings, my automobiles” she sings. “I do what I want / Say what you say / I work real hard every day.”

On Twitter, she explained her motivations for writing the song along with a poignant essay for Rolling Stone. “I just really f*cking love being a woman,” she tweeted. “I wanted an anthem to yell about being self-sufficient and strong.” Later in the essay, she notes that she hopes fans listening to “Woman” will “hear that wild spirit still strong inside me, but this time it was created more raw, spontaneously, and with all live instrumentation.” She adds that she wanted the song “to capture that organic, raw, soulful sound and keep the imperfect moments in the recordings, because I find the magic in the imperfections.”
